Gawker's apparent outing of CFO meets with Internet backlash submitted by BrickDick to news

BrickDick 1 points 43 points (+44|-1) ago

For those not following the story: Gawker published an article on David Geithner, the CFO of Conde Nast, claiming he attempted to pay a gay male escort. Another source claims the whole thing is a hoax and Gawker may have libeled Geithner, or attempted to out a gay man. Either way, Gawker is in hot water across social media platforms and other news organizations are publishing articles critical of their journalistic practices.

It's not a shadowban, it's just an upgrade to the blockbot! She can't be harassed* if no one can see her posts.

FUNimation Addresses Prison School Criticism submitted by Stork to KotakuInAction

Coming from someone who doesn't dive headfirst into anime, it doesn't bother me much. Just a reason that sub > dub in a lot of cases. FUNimation probably smacked the guy's hands behind the scenes, but they're smart enough to want this to go away quickly without the attention that anything more serious would bring.

What if Freud was right... submitted by Sparkleunicorn to psychology

BrickDick 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

You should take a look at some of the basis for Evolutionary Psychology. It's not a sub-field, but rather a perspective about human psychology. It addresses some of your concerns with duality in that our actions aren't always consistent with what is best for us. A lot of it boils down to this: We do things because they feel good and evolution has shaped our psychological adaptations to do things that are generally in the best interest of our genes.

As far as Freud and his contributions to the field, I'm of the opinion that his laurels should be limited to contributing to the empirical approach for psychology and helping to develop clinical applications.
