US police killings headed for 1,100 this year, with black Americans twice as likely to die submitted by FreeSpeachRocks to news

20% of the people shot by the police were unarmed which I think should be rephrased to "80% of those shot had a fucking gun on them". 80%!!!!

You think it is acceptable that a full 20% of people killed by police officers were unarmed? We're supposed to say, "Well, 80% is pretty good. The police get a B in homicide."

YSK the top mod of /v/anarchism (DukeOfAnarchy) endorses the confederacy. submitted by anticapitalist to Socialism

It might be the slavery part. It wasn't merely a war over separatism and limited government.

Phrases like "war of aggression" are also pro-Confederate jargon.

Because obviously it doesn't end at the Confederate flag. Louis Farrakhan calls for American flag to come down: Who are we fighting today? submitted by freshloaf to politics

Actually a critique of the Confederate flag and not the American flag is myopic. It wasn't only the South that promoted slavery and owned slaves. And it wasn't the Confederacy that continued Jim Crow up to modern times. We might also consider all of the wars fought under the American flag to this day as well.

It's a rag with lots of blood on it, too.

Discussion time. What do you guys think can be done to help improve the image of police in America? submitted by DarthMewtwo to Police

This is a good post. You said it: "it's a fundamental problem in the way the American justice system operates." There are major elements of how the system itself was designed and how it has developed that breeds the kind of behavior we see today.

You don't see the Japanese moping around about its atrocities during WW2 or the Arabs moping around about its much worse slave trade.

Are you saying that we should emulate this?

The fact that Japanese state and media refuses to self-critique Japanese war crimes, or that various Arab states refuse to acknowledge a historical role in the slave trade (or modern human rights abuses, for that matter), is not a virtue.

There were JTRIG leaks in 2014, but The Intercept just released these documents a few days ago. They cover some of the same material, but also go into more detail on the manipulation aspect (as well as specific goals, such as regime change in Zimbabwe).
