This is standard for logistics. In truth, the trucking contract probably travels through a couple more middle men before an owner/operator gets it then was listed in the article. Saw an article about an 'uber' type app someone was working on for the trucking industry that hopes to cut out some of the middle men leeching off the system and provide greater value and profit on both ends.

I just don't see an Uber type app working that well in that field. They want to know when and where not well we will announce a shipment and hope someone shows up soon, that is how they get penalties for late deliveries.
