Or, alternatively, we could leave them here, on this planet that we've so thoroughly wrecked, while the rest of us move to the new one. Seriously, let's just do that. Corrupt politicians? They get left behind. Religious fanatics? Left behind. Pedophiles, murderers, rapists? Leave'em. Populate the new planet with the best human beings that this one has to offer and leave the garbage behind.

Exactly my thought. If we lived in Star Trek times, then 16 ly would be nearby. Nowadays, it's just very, very far away, while other things, which are hundreds ly from us are ridiculously far away or absurdly far away.
