Pretty much all the time, especially with video games. Everything that looks like mediocre crap ends up coming out as glitchy, mediocre crap because their hundred-million-dollar advertising campaign necessitated the launch date not change despite the underpaid programmers not finishing on time.

Yes, Sonic Boom (the games, the TV show is great.)
That period of smugness was brief, it became sadness when I realized that Sonic would become the gaming press's whipping boy again.

Seriously? At this point, predicting that a Sonic game is going to be terrible is like predicting that the sky is going to be blue tomorrow.

If you actually play Sonic instead of believing gaming press, you'll see that the quality of Sonic games varies greatly.
Shadow The Hedgehog: Debatable
Sonic '06: Bad
Sonic Unleashed: Debatable
Sonic 4 Episode 1: Debatable
Sonic Colors: Good
Sonic Generations: Good
Sonic 4 Episode 2: Good
Sonic Lost World: Debatable
Sonic Boom: BURN IT WITH FUCKING FIRE
Oh yes.
I've been playing The Elder Scrolls since Daggerfall (more accurately, from Daggerfall to Oblivion - I refused to buy Skyrim, and have never had cause to regret that decision), and following and mostly criticizing development since Morrowind, so I've had some pretty easy opportunities.

Yes.
The last WoW expansion... I un-subbed 2 weeks after it released because I could already see how badly it was going to suck. It was rather vindicating to see them bleeding subscribers so fast that they stopped releasing sub numbers.
Not that I wanted the game to fail, it was just nice to know that my initial opinion was correct:

I feel grimdark when that happens
