We need to free the market. If the government's insurance scheme wants to run in parallel then that's fine. They can do that in addition to the free market. Last I checked the existence of food stamps didn't necesitate everyone using the grocery store to sign a contract saying they will buy certain grociers. It's litterally illegal to seek care without signing such a contract right now. They sure stuck it to pharma alright.
