No doubt games like The Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight being celebrated by BAFTA today are fun and entertaining. But they’re also transparent male power fantasies. We can’t celebrate these games on one hand while entirely divorcing them from the behaviour of some who play them on the other.

Oh yeah, I too act out my fantasys of being a 100+ yo mutant runing around fucking Elves and sacubbi after playing too much witcher.

but while video games have gained a notorious reputation for misogyny,

Yeah games like The Witcher are so sexist all that women do there is destroying hords of demons with a wrist flick and brun shit down after turning into dragons, so sexist.

But if you’re a geek male spending hundreds or even thousands of hours obsessively absorbed in the power fantasies of superhero movies like Deadpool or video games like Grand Theft Auto, you might want to ask yourself some serious questions about why.

Because there is nothing better to do, because thats the only place where your whiningdoesnt do shit and that bugs the living trigger out of you.

MAINSTREAM JOCK BEHAVIORS:

• Being a white male geek

• Enjoying superhero movies and movies with muscular action stars

• Enjoying video games such as The Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Grand Theft Auto.

NON-MAINSTREAM JOCK BEHAVIORS:

• Making fun of geeks for enjoying geek things

• Judging people and making fun of people based off their ethnicity and their gender

• Trying to get the public to side with you making fun of nerds and geeks by writing a simplistic 650 word article about something you know bare bones about

I probably put in more thought than this article deserved, but this can be copy/pasta'd for any future feminist anti-gamer article without becoming incoherent, probably.

This article makes zero sense. His essay opens with a paragraph about how the bullied nerds who inhabit video gaming culture are themselves lacking empathy and bullies of others. Okay, fine, go ahead and make that point, but how will you defend that? What points will you make that will bolster that core argument and try to convince me that it is true?

Spoiler alert: he doesn't get there. His next paragraph immediately defines the word fantasy, not at all connected to bullying or lack of empathy. The third attempts to tie his second paragraph to the central idea: we use fantasy as therapy to live out our desires; which in the case of video games are violent. This idea is expanded in the fourth paragraph, but these paragraphs have a real problem: even if a person is acting out a violent fantasy in video games, how is it hurting or bullying others?

Finally, in the fifth paragraph, 200 words later, we finally tie the two ideas together: the most popular video games are male power fantasies, and we can't divorce the behavior of those who consume them from the ideas expressed in the game. This is presented with absolutely NO support, and given as a statement of fact. (Because if he actually used data, he'd see that video game sales keep increasing while violence as a whole keeps decreasing.) This is the favored tactic of these feminist op-ed pieces. Words upon words of fluff and definitions to increase the word count with core central ideas presented without argument, as if we must accept them because they are so simple.

Every single point he makes is presented as a matter of fact. The way he presents them in an accusatory tone, not even remotely contemplating that someone might actually need some convincing, it makes you wonder: who is the audience of the piece? It is definitely not to misogynistic gamers, because he doesn't make any effort to convince them, nor does he give any actual advice on how to change their ways. It is not to gamers in general, because his last paragraph narrows his list of targets so he has an easy way out of criticism, "This wasn't for you". But we have established it wasn't for misogynistic gamers already. Therefore, it's for people who already believe in the trash he's espousing. For those who already believe gamers are misogynistic creeps. For those who already believe sexism is out to get them. This isn't an article to change the world. It's tiresome, clickbait drivel, devoid of content, written to sell to a website and earn brownie points with feminists.

Complete garbage with no value. If it was excised and removed, no one would miss it. Exactly like the writer himself.
