How does this place still get returning clients? I imagine it's actually just a huge gym filled with obese people who sit around.

way too hot to run outside
Oh, I believe you! It's one of the main reasons I got a gym membership near me. Trust me, my local gym isn't much better than Planet fatness, it's just abandoned half the time and has mainly cardio, so I run a lot there and ignore the shitty music they play. I hate when people say just go run in the park. With my asthma, it's easier to work out in a controlled environment. If I go running out into the park and have an attack, well.. that's always been a scary thought to me. You keep on doing you. It's fun to trigger the fats anyway.

Their business model depends on their clients NOT returning. People who use the equipment cost them money. So they have the Lunk Alarm and the "no grunting" rules to keep the undesirables out. They want the fats to sign up because fats will show up maybe once per month and won't cancel their memberships. It's free money. The pizza and bagels are there to keep them coming back occasionally so they keep paying that monthly fee.

Well, why would you go to the gym in the first place if there's no pizza and bagels????
It's like you want to starve, shitlord.

Obviously being fit and breathing heavily shouldn't be bannable offenses, but being any louder than is necessary for a safe, effective workout should not be allowed. Weights should be lowered as softly as is safe, and gratuitous vocalizations should be avoided. Dropping weights too hard and excessively vocalizing are at best an attention-whoring behavior and at worst an aggressive behavior. In either event they are distracting and potentially frightening to other patrons.

That reminds me of this story.

Pathetic. They just want fatties like themselves around just to feel good about not losing weight.

That's their business model. They want the fats to sign up for memberships because fats won't actually use the equipment. The free pizza and bagels are there to encourage them to show up once in a while so they don't cancel their memberships.
