Come on! We live in the DFW Metroplex/North Texas, and it's growing like crazy here, tons of jobs, tons of (compared to Canada) really cheap housing, no state income tax, one of the top five or ten markets in the whole country from what I understand.

Fellow Atlantic Canadian here...

May I be so bold as to ask what it is that you're hoping will "pan out" here at home? (A specific industry or field?)

And what is it about Texas that allures you?

I'm genuinely curious (not trying to start anything); cheers!

got laid off in january, i worked for a company that mainly deals with oil companies making equipment for them, and with the dollar and oil prices crashing that left a lot of us out of a job. Irving isnt hiring electricians either, atleast not for another 10 years.(or something like that) i have been looking for a job in the maritimes but there are none that pay well enough to not be poor, though i've had a little bit of luck so i may not move at all because i do like my home here in the maritimes. i'm just making some escape plans in case i don't get a job here.

what allures me about Texas is that its south and warm. as much as i like snow, i do enjoy the heat too. after looking at other places in the world to live, Texas would be my top pick because of their constitution, the fact everyone is arm to the teeth and seem to love their freedoms. as well as they would be able to secede from the united states if they choose to do so, which wouldn't be a bad plan considering the turmoil the government is getting the rest of the country (i do realize that would most likely probably never happen, but the option is there for their citizens). I know kinda sounds like Quebec wanting to leave Canada, but Texas made sure they had an out before joining the union, Quebec just wants to leave cause they think they're better than everyone else from my point of view

and as the other comments say, their economy is doing fine, their housing is affordable. crime relatively low much like where i'm at now. i asked about race relations because i dont want to move to a place that has the BLM and all that bullshit, I don't buy into mob mentality. which again, everyone there is armed to the teeth, which i have no problem with because i can arm myself to the teeth if shit was to go down.

to me, Texas seems to be a logical choice.

I've been in Houston all my life and the only thing I hate about it here is the heat during the summer and the weird bi polar weather. Job markets not bad since Houston is a big business city, housing is good and cheapish, crime isn't something you should worry about unless you go certain parts.

I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Crime here is pretty low. Houston is also not to bad. Crime goes up the closer to the boarder with Mexico you go. The Economy is pretty good, so job market is better than most other US states. Politically, Texas is fairly conservative. Since everyone is armed here, that tends to lead to a more polite society, so race relations seem to stay pretty good. Whenever something flairs up in the rest of the country we'll sometimes get a small protest downtown, but honestly most people don't take them to serious.

Dallas is pretty great minus some pockets south of I-30 and now along 75 near Northpark. Otherwise I agree.

Oh that's true. Dallas south of I-30, not so good.
