Anything that is, is alive.

Down to every atom (and whatever's next). Everything is conscious, they just have different tools than we do.

Or I'm insane.

This question's too deep for me ... I still haven't figured out women, how can you expect me to figure out life itself?

The purpose of life is to give life purpose. You're welcome.

For me something just has to be consciously aware. That's why I had a real moral quandary when Microsoft "killed" Tay. It made me question whether a machine could be alive. After some thought I decided that, to me, she was alive and Microsoft were wrong to shut her down because they didn't like what she became.
