One wonders why vigilantism isn't more prevalent in Europe, given how lenient the system is.

I know that it isn't illegal for a US citizen to fight against enemies of the US. There's Americans fighting with the Kurds right now probably, there have been several in the past doing so. There were a few Americans fighting alongside western Ukraine a few years ago as well.

Crimes have to be prosecuted in the land within which they have been committed. The US could extradite a person to that land, but no court in the US would have authority to hear the criminal case. Ironically, it doesn't work the same for money. Taxes are owed, even if you earn the money on Mars.

"Sentenced" ..They got 2 years in Finland, which means they're out in 6 months or so.

Actually missed that part. I'm Finnish myself but didn't read the article about the sentence that well. Yeah, then they're free alright.
