Halting paradox proved that there will always be programa that machines cannot make.

Programming is 75% syntax, order of operations, and math, and 25% art, or at the very least, creativity.

That 25% is extremely important. After all, there is more than one way to skin a cat, and with meta programming, you're only going to use what is known.

I think you have misunderstood what metaprogramming is.

From wikipedia:

Metaprogramming is the writing of computer programs with the ability to treat programs as their data. It means that a program could be designed to read, generate, analyse or transform other programs, and even modify itself while running.

Programming is still being done, it's just... more meta.

Someone programming a kill bot to kill (insert something different) people.

This Is why it's good to be a computer engineer; the computers will always break down, and a human will probably have to fix it.

That's where my dumbass comes in.

Assuming all the not engineers haven't torn society down by then. We are already in great depression levels of unemployment, there's not much wiggle room before shit goes south real fast.

I got it guys... What if we start a dual race and relious world war at the SAME TIME?

but what if they have computers to do that? what if AI gets that advanced?

Obviously made by someone who has never touched code in their life. Meta programming taking jobs is about as much of a threat for a programmer as the sun burning out is for everyone else.

The singularity is always a second away. The more apt analogy is that a coronal mass ejection or gamma ray burst could burn up the atmosphere and kill all life of earth. We hope it never happens, but it could at any time. It would be so powerful and rapid that we would never know or understand what hit us. Similarly, an AI doesn't even have to be sentient to act in a way that will destroy us all.

Also, you are underestimating the runaway, exponential effect that programs writing programs could have.

Depending on how a society is set up, robots taking all our jobs is either a terrible thing or a fantastic one.

Obviously the rich care sooooo much about the poor that they'll make sure we're provided for once we're no longer needed.

Sounds like we need a society where everyone's rich.

It should be humanities end game not the end of humanity.

Yeah, I mean, look at how well it worked for the Earth in Star Trek. Roddenberry put one hell of a lot of thought into the logistics of a post-need civilization, and I'd like to think that we're not terribly far off from it. We already have more homes in this country than people, the US alone makes enough food to nourish the world's population twice over, there's really just the matter of sustainable freshwater, sterilizing the retarded/human dregs, and nonrenewable resources left to tackle.

After that, there would be no need for money. Hell, if you're an offgridder, you barely need money at all. All that lifestyle takes is utilitarianism, and not being a pussy.

I don't remember this happening in Star trek

Meta-programming is shit though, the only stuff I trust with that trash is documentation and even then you can write your own and make it way better.

Yeah it'll get better as time goes on but that's hypothetical future stuff, you can't bank a career and an economic sector on that.

By the time we get to that point, there might be so much rampant unemployment that a job might not even be necessary to live. Everything will be automated.
