Side sewer workers are in demand, and the pay is surprisingly good. I gigged that between tech jobs.

Have you drafted a will yet?
[–] SkinnyMagna [S] ago
It's all about the armour baby. Dress like you're about to fistfight a 10 ton bear. Walking away is much sexier than getting smeared across an intersection.

Right. Make up a will anyway, it doesn't take long. I've known expert riders who've had their brains splattered all over the road by little old ladies.

I've been interested in Seattle and I just looked at plentyoffish dating site and it looks like there are tons of fine, fit, pale honeys out in Seattle, then I saw your AMA. Is it true? I need to get the fuck out of the bay area, it's hell.

There are fine women out here, but the SJW scene is strong and annoying at times. And they suck at driving.

Lane splitting is still illegal in most states, including Washington. It would definitely be useful to allow filtering, which is riding forward between lanes at a stoplight. I only filter at the right lane when I need to make that right turn at a stop. That is, when all the vehicles are stopped and not moving, i'll do it to make that right turn. When filtering becomes legal, i'll do the middle lanes at stop lights too. I don't like the idea of splitting lanes at speed, simply because it shrinks the safety zone around me. Safety room is much more important than getting a little bit ahead.
A note on that same thought: There aren't many year-round riders here, those I do observe are always courteous and careful. However, there are many sunshine cruisers and squids who only come out on the nice days, and they tend to ride like absolute jackwipes.
Cool. Lane filtering as you called should deffinitely be legal. as a cyclist I know it keeps me safer. Im from California so split away when you ride here! Just do it at a reasonable speed compared to traffic flow. I asked the question cause a bike did a suicide split on me this morning when I was in my car. Splitting lanes on my right goes behind me and splits on my left all while going way over the allotted 5 mph difference. Had to change my pants.

It rarely snows up here. Mostly, winter is just cold and wet. It'll dip below freezing for about a month, which makes for ice in the morning. The trick is to take it easy (especially in the turns), and just coast gently through rough patches. Also, dress very warmly, so your muscles are relaxed and not tense from the cold. This is probably the most important cold weather tip I can give. If you are tense and uncomfortable, you won't be riding at 100%, and that just compounds the road hazards. To sum it up, be comfortable and take it slow on slick roads. A few minutes late is better than calling from the ER.
I live and work in Seattle, between Georgetown and Sodo. It's about a 15 minute commute through the back roads. It used to be 45 minutes riding the freeway, usually due to traffic snarls in rush hour. I might be moving in the next few months, preferably to a more affordable location.

Sweet bike. How old is she?
[–] SkinnyMagna [S] 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
16 years old, just over 10k on the odometer. I bought it about 4 months ago in cash from it's first owner.

More often then not, its other drivers being retarded. Riders need to be very cautious in traffic here, folks just don't pay attention.
