i just must to comment, mr. baiter,...east colfax is fucking HUGE and super diverse with a deep history in the denver psyche...east high school is on e. colfax, alma mater of don cheadle, (he's a black guy) and many, many other successful, smart people of all shades and doctrines...shopping in thrift stores and antique shops, great food (see above) and great cultural and art stuff, colfax is the heart and soul of denver, (and aurora) and deserves more respect...branding ALL of east colfax a "no-go zone" is like saying "all mexicans are rapists."
honestly, mr. baiter, i'm saddened and offended by your apparent close-mindedness...open your eyes and take a real good look....east colfax is America at it's best, (and worst). good luck.

depends on her age and how much you want to expose her to. i personally loved denver when i lived there, but it will definitely be sketch for a lone female. completely avoid five points, colfax, and mlk blvd. can be dangerous and i've seen several 15-20 person black gangs at night, and smaller groups (5-10) during the day at bus stations/light rails. i'd also avoid commerce city. drugs are rampant, homeless people are everywhere and they are very pushy. don't even talk to them, i've offered to buy them food before and they got violent. limit all interactions with hobos to zero. i've seen hobos throw liquor bottles at couples, break 'em over people, i've even had them do it to me and a couple of friends because i wouldn't let them "borrow my phone". i would just recommend altogether not going anywhere alone. lol. there are awesome things to do everywhere, but i would discourage going lone wolf on the town at night. great city but not really "visitor friendly".
http://www.areavibes.com/denver-co/crime/ 1 in 26 chance of being a victim to crime in denver. 34% overall crime rate higher than national average.

Check the Denver Westword. It's a local magazine (online too) that has all kinds of information on shows. Stay away from 5 points. Broadway from 5th to a little past 1st is a nice area as well as 16th Street. Lots of bums though. It's supposed to be windy this week too so dress accordingly.

"little man's" ice cream is always a big hit. great stuff. huge lines. inexpensive and delicious homemade flavored ice cream. depending on the age and what they're into i might be able to give some other recommendations.
