Anyone wanna bet this is FBI playing games with Apple? Not too many crews can pull this off..
Timing is interesting at the least.

You know I wouldn't be surprised.

The poisoned software update was signed by a trusted certificate. Unsure whether it was stolen or obtained fraudulently. I think this is evidence criminals are getting better at their jobs.

I don't know, this whole Apple vs FBI thing seems strangely similar to the "iMessage can't be wire-tapped" BS they tried to feed us a couple years ago. Remember, when they tried to make people think that iMessage was fully, completely, 100% safe from law enforcement in an effort to trick people into doing illegal business on it.
Well this seems to me like they are trying to trick users into thinking that their iPhone is an uncrackable magic bullet against NSA et al, when in reality it's probably already wide open.

Separate question, how does one get a Mac VM?

I doubt the typical Apple user keeps updates, nor knows how to restore anything from a backup.

as long as you update in app you don't get the ransomware
it was only in that particular installer

Yah, despite the headline this isn't viral.

Ya I remember updating randomly a few days ago, and I just checked and I'm running a newer version than the one the guy in the video was talking about.
