You're voicing an opinion but stating it as fact. And you're wrong. Microsoft learned an outrageously expensive lesson about trying to leverage their position as the #1 OS provider for the PC (by a phenomenal margin) to force other entities in the industry to do things a certain way. They aren't going to make that same mistake twice because they already know the outcome. Don't be so bloody naive.

Microsoft has learned nothing. It is shoving down it's OS down peoples throat while data mining their personal lives and selling it to the highest bidder.

Microsoft is in no way, form or capacity trying to "Make the ecosystem better!", it's trying to make money, hand over fist.

That's the reason why both consumers and developers are up in arms about all of this.

Edit : Let's bring this conversation to a close. You and i can both hope that PC gaming remains the wonderful place it currently is and let's be hopeful Microsoft initiatives are for the best. Case closed.
