What I posted was campaign propaganda appealing to the sentiments of white voters in the face of the revolutionary racial policies of Radical Republicans. Seymour actually got a majority of the white vote for POTUS in 1868 - and even with some Southern states still being out of the Union and being unable to vote along with many former Confederates that were disenfranchised in Southern states that were in the Union. Before the Civil War asking this question was virtually akin to asking whether water is wet. The only arguable question now is whether America is a white man's country in 2016.
