They are pretty entrenched. I don't think this is an advantage. There is an ugly side to the government subsidized companies however: they don't innovate.

They play it safe so as not to jeopardize their free government money. In the old economy, this was ok, but in the global economy, this is a death sentence. Look at GM and GE. They are not known as innovators. Sure, their commercials claim they are, its a crock.

Toyota, honda, and now the korean auto companies swim circles around GM. GE has lost a lot of the american market, including military contracts, to saint gobain and siemans.

This is where things get interesting. Can a tech company survive when the government hampers its innovation?
