I think I've upvoted this at least ten times over the years. People post it all the time and I'll never grow tired of it.

Carlin really nailed the social commentary. This early to late 90s period, I think, was probably his best. Fans of Carlin are probably already aware of these two, but if you're not, make sure to check out Lenny Bruce and Bill Hicks...equally sharp wit that never seems dated.

Yeah, he was sort of the "starting point" because he started in the 50s. His albums were really great...this isn't him at his most political but I think it's his tightest live performance...at least put to record. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1edm2x5gx9Q
Then, this is one of his more controversial bits that led to some obscenity charges. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyY5rBvD0LI...To is a Preposition, Come is a Verb

The American Dream is dead. At least in earlier decades, if you were hardworking, you had the chance to get a decent paying job. You could afford a car and a house and could settle down with a family. That's all rapidly disappearing now, and I doubt that my kids will ever experience the notion of the American Dream.

Blame those who brought globalization to America. The whole point of Ross Perots debate against Bush and Clinton. Everything he said came true. And the mass media and TV shows including Saturday Night Live called him crazy and made him a laughing stock for the brain-dead zombie couch potato idiots. Now their families are suffering from their lack of research into the subject. Now they are doing the same to Ron Paul and Rand Paul. A never-ending propaganda campaign to destroy America.

One of the things I found remarkable was the morphing of 'The American Dream' into the 'Bootstrap Millionaire' meme. Maybe I am cherry-picking my sources here, I understood 'The American Dream' to mean living of comfortable life, owning a home, and being able to retire with decent benefit based on a 40 hour work week, maybe with a single earner in the family. Now when I see 'American Dream' references, it is all out getting rich, bi**h.

Yeah, originally it was all about getting a stable job and retiring with a good wife. People seemed happy to work their jobs as long as they payed decently and were stable. Now, people jump from job to job searching for the one that pays the best. I'm not sure if this is good or bad for the economy, but it can't be good for society. The prevalence of minimum wage, low-skill jobs seem to have gotten rid of that.

I think my favorite part of this little speech is that this is how he went out on his last HBO special and I can not think of a better way for him to end his career
