Because science has a systematic method of inquiry, the results are meant to be peer reviewed to ensure validity.

When you have those two ingredients you get good information AND you can trust it.

When either breaks down you get religion and 'social science'.

Wouldn't you think that science would be one of the more valuable assets to keep secret. We still do keep parts secret. Computers were strictly military until they made better computers. That can be said for pretty much all tech we have today. It's kind of interesting to ponder about. What would the world be like if science wasn't shared between countries openly. World War 2 would have probably ended a lot differently.

Some science is kept secret.

The technical details relating to actually mass manufacturing nuclear weapons for instance.

Because if a scientific fact differs based on the side of a border you stand on or the God you believe in then it's not really a scientific fact.

because it's objectively fact-based from its foundation, unlike basically every other human endeavor.

Science has a long history of secrecy and non-collaboration to be honest, like you say, especially in the money-making areas such as medicine and technology. Such is the ways of humans and money. But...

Like other posts say, science relies on peer review to validate results and make sure they are true/not-a-hoax, etc.

On a more social note, science is surposed to be for the betterment of mankind, and is the only thing, well, specifically Physics, that has the potential to save us from the end in about 80 years, so...we are all going to end if we don't work on it...so why not team up and survive together?

A lot fo research occurs in the private sector and isn't shared. Also I think there's not a whole lot of interchange between Western scientific institutions and their Eastern counterparts.
