Of course they would love that, but that isn't what they're doing right now.
Some are claiming that they want Apple to build a backdoor into their devices that law enforcement agencies can use and that hackers may exploit - This is a lie. An obvious lie because there is no need for them to build a backdoor, because they can already do exactly what the FBI wants. The FBI isn't demanding that your device become less secure. Nothing will change. Your devices already can be unlocked as proven by the fact that Apple has repeatedly done this for law enforcement in the past.
This is just bullshit advertising by Apple to make you think that their devices are secure and your data is safe when there has always been ways that people can get into it. As proven by the fact that Apple has unlocked devices numerous times.

the fbi not really. apple should just give the information they need. its really just blown out proportion. if i had "secret" documents from people with terror ties. id be in gitmo.
apple probably doesn't want you know they go through all your crap anyways, just like google.

I'm all for Apple taking a stand against government intrusion, but why now? It was my understanding that they had opened phones for them before. Is this a change with Tim Cook or just a marketing scheme? What is different this time?

And the NSA very likely have access to Apple's source code anyway, I'll be fair and say Apple didn't give it to them and that they stole it, however I am sure they have it.
I think marketing is the key reason on Apple's side, it will be good for them. I suspect they will win, so then watch everyone start to believe the iPhone is super secure and trust it 100%, that would be amazing for the government to have everyone believing it's safe when it's actually compromised and great for Apple also.
I'm sure Apple will win this for those reasons and this is exactly why this one case is being so hyped and publicized.

Of course they are. They're out to do anything and everything they can to weaken the citizens and strengthen the government, and they'll take every opportunity they get to accomplish that.
If this was some third-world shithole, they'd just start massacring people until the rest fell in line. But they can't do that and get away with it, so they have to move incrementally. They can't take power all at once, but instead have to con us into giving it to them, a little at a time. So that's exactly what they do, a little at a time.

I like how they're trying to break encryption. Once they break something, they need something secure for themselves; that trickles to the citizens. Tor may or may not be broken now, but that was a technology for the US Navy and it's been a thorn in their side to today. Once it's completely broken, I assume the next government dedicated system will be used by the people.
