There is, and in my opinion can be, no objective "meaning of life." Meaning, in the sense in which the term is used here, is wholly and necessarily subjective, so whatever "meaning" any individual might perceive in life is simply the "meaning" that that individual perceives in life.

The mistake that people make regarding the meaning of life isn't in looking for it, but in looking for it in the wrong places. They look outside, to other people or to the universe itself, and never find it. If they were to instead look inside, they'd find that it's already there, whatever it might be for them.

tl;dr: Existence.

I thought about this one for years and years. It makes perfect sense, if you think about it completely logically.

If you do not exist, the meaning life has no meaning. You must exist for life to have any meaning. In essence, life itself, or as we know it, can be boiled down into the following:

  1. You are born

  2. You are educated

  3. You work

  4. You procreate

  5. You die

This formula above hasn't changed too much over the millennia, if at all. This doesn't necessarily have to sound depressing in any way. It just means your life follows a preset template that everyone shares the moment they draw breath. The moments you have in-between those steps is what defines us and who we are individually. After all, without us the question would be meaningless.

To survive as long as possible so you can multiply. Humans are good with it but they dont come even close to microorganisms or even just small organisms like insects.

Life by its self is meaningless, like an empty canvas. It's what you do with it that makes it meaningful. Others will try to tell you how to live, like someone telling you what to paint. We all have to find meaning in our own lives and try not to fuck up along the way.

I just saw a video of the mechanisms within a cell from a youtube video linked in a comment from this site.

It made me think.

What is the meaning of life? Movement. Improvement. Evolution. To use this engine, this body, to improve and contribute to the growth of the collective of engines that it is a member of. If possible, to leave a new and improved copy of this body to keep the collective called humanity moving, improving, evolving.

I am so high...

I have a few ideas:

  • My opinion is that life is just a thought experiment for a single consciousness to experience itself and to know itself better. So life is to satiate our own collective curiosity about who "we" are and to better understand our own psyche.

  • I feel there are no inherent rules to life, so it really is what you make of it. Like others have said, you designate meaning to your life, or you don't, it is all up to you.

  • To progress; where or for what reason, I am not sure, change and progression just seems to be one of a few constants in life. My own theory is that we are supposed to remember that we are all products of our own consciousness (some call it the Big Bang) and that the material world is illusory and a theater production we all have a role in whether consciously or unconsciously.

Just my.
