Unfortunately for the FBI and the DOJ, this would be an effective marketing strategy only if the majority of people think having the FBI able to compromise their device's security is unacceptable -- which means they've already lost the war.

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but could the government have already cracked the phone, and are trying to lull the bad guys into a false sense of security?
