If you go drive for a taxicab service, you have to pay for a hack license. You also have to pay the owner of a taxi medallion, in order to drive his cab. You have to work a 12-hour shift if you want to break even. You also have the stress of wondering if you're going to get robbed or killed when you pick up a fare.
I find this whole thing laughable. They (the Taxi drivers and Taxi companies) created this animal in order to drive out competition. Why do you think came up with Medallions? They were instituted by cities at the behest of cab drivers to limit the number of licensed cabs on the road thereby ensuring their prosperity. They created their own union, and now they're pissed because someone is using their own laws against them. The Haas Act, prompted by cab drivers themselves, specifically allows pickup services like Uber and Lyft. The ONLY restriction is they cannot be flagged off the street. They still, by law, have to have a valid "hack" license to provide transportation services in NYC.

Technically it's a ride share app. If you want to get paid to drive a taxi, go drive for a taxicab service. Pretty sure they have unions.
And maybe don't expect to get paid a whole lot for doing something that 99% of non-disabled adults in the country are capable of doing.

Yeah, it's a shit job. You can thank third world immigration for that.
Probably a better idea to do something else.

If they do anything that raises the price, demand will fall.

So Uber "fucks the drivers over" by correctly classifying them as 1099's, at which point they get to see just how absurdly high taxes are in the US? Oy, way to blame Uber for the US tax system being confiscatory.

Does Uber have some sort of patent on using a phone to contact a taxi company to get a ride? If they don't they should maybe treat their drivers with some respect, because the drivers can jump ship real easily.

My point is, there is no reason to be an uber driver when they are treating the workers poor. There is a reason to develop a different company that doesn't treat workers poor.

And there goes 30% of the U.S. Job market...
they will probably never drive a car unassisted.
With automatics and all those fancy things that manuals don't have, couldn't you say that's already been happening for a while.

Nah. I don't feel like losing my crappy job by joining a union. At least I have money coming in even though I'm being rammed up the ass every day and getting it in the face three times a week
