The pianist Glen Gould was really big on this. I think he only practiced, physically, for about two to three hours a day, but he was always mentally playing and trying to find better ways to play a piece.

So maybe practicing on multiple similar instruments increases total skill faster than focusing on just one? That's encouraging in a way.

Probably creates a ton more neural connections and strengthens the ones devoted to info such as "where the hell is C Major oh here it is".
