I have little sympathy for this kid, calling our police on someone is directly putting their lives at risk, but our police are completely out of control. SWAT teams were just supposed to be special units used when faced with potential crimials so highly armed that regular police couldn't handle it. Over a few dacades their use has become routine against the most non-violent of "criminals".

Although the father was harmed, they also said that there was absolutely no evidence of a shooting or any stress, so why the hell was he shot? They just walk in and start shooting? They could be shooting hostages. The 15 year old kid should have to take responsibility for the terrible decision he made, but not that injury.

This is pretty harsh this kid is an idiot but he wasn't acting maliciously. I think he should be let out lot sooner and hopefully he will be, but he needs to pay for the crime he committed the. It would also be kind of great if he gets raided once or twice a year for a while at random times during the year but that would probably get ruled as strange and unusual punishment.

Not sure if putting a 15 year old in prison until he's 40 is sane.
Infact it isn't. But what they call "justice" is actually revenge in disguise.
The whole swatting thing is just insane and mostly only an american phenomena, it is not this 15y/o fault if the cops are blood thirsty and seek any possible excuse to murder, torture and destroy the life of random people.
Yes, he made a mistake and yes, he needs some kind of corrective punishment for it (say forcing him to work for some months for his community for free)... but it is not the 15y/o who shoot, injured and perhaps killed someone because of incompetence, that's is fully responsibility of the cops who went there and shoot an unarmed person in his own house only because someone made them a phone call.

it is not this 15y/o fault if the cops are blood thirsty and ...
But the kid knows the cops are like that and sends them in. He is at fault for that.
The cops are a different problem, you are right. But that is what makes the kids actions so bad. He sent killers after innocents. He is a criminal, and responsible for his actions.
The fact that the cops can also be murderers does not change anything.

I approve in this case. A swat team is an undisciplined club. It is not a tool of precision. Unless that kid was retarded he knew he was putting lives in danger. It also makes it clear to any future swatters that this is not acceptable.
Personally I do not have a problem with harsh punishments in cases of clear guilt that endanger innocents.
The shithead did this for lols because he was butt-hurt over losing a game. That is the kind of person I would rather not have on the street.
Throw away the key.
