Apparently, AI is not what it used to be... Now it's just a question of HOW LONG before AI takes the gloves off for real -- some say twenty five years, some say it's not for fifty years, before AI is superior to humans. Think what this means for a little bit about AI, and read it yourself. Pretty frightening, even though the opening lines make you think it's far off. But then it get's deadly serious.

To note, the Go AI in question is an hybrid using a classic tree-searching algorithm with a neural network taking the place of an evaluation function.
Because we have no idea what a good evaluation function for Go look like.
( as for why the classic tree search : it turn out neural networks simply can't do it effectively. Also finding practical uses to games trained neural networks seem to be pretty hard, since we don't know how or why they work. )
