the thing is, this one book everyone's referencing today is terrible. it's not a book for kids and I wouldn't even recommend it for adults. this is an extreme example of them trying to force a concept to basically create a controversy and sell books out of said faux outrage. the thor thing to me seemed forced as well though admittedly, I barely even read classic thor let alone any current storylines, so i don't know if there was just normal comics craziness (he was a frog for a while) that they fit this in with or if it came out of nowhere.
comics are becoming more pervasive into all aspects of entertainment these days. The MCU saw to that. appealing to new markets out of this new found popularity isn't new, as girls/women are not commonly comic readers, but now there is more interest and more money so they can bring new things to the table that might not be your thing but could be their cup of tea (women writing for women kind of thing).
everyone should read comics and comics are that much more fun if you can relate to a character but there are better ways to do it than the referenced title (which again, seems like it was being written by someone who heard of tumblr two or three folks removed and made a play at it, like when CSI talks about online gaming). i love the new ms. marvel and think that's really well written and drawn in addition to being a more diverse character. it doesn't feel forced, since the backstory is that a bunch of terrigen mist (that junk that gives inhumans their powers) gets sprayed over NY. easy enough to believe that a girl who got powers happens to be a second generation muslim girl since NY has everyone and everything.
i've backed away from marvel here and there recently simply because they have way too many cross book epics these days. the recent secret wars and all the related books for that weren't great and they ruined a lot of books with promise by forcing them into that story. it's just like anything else, there's gonna be good, there's gonna be crap. terribleness aside, i dunno how old your kid is, but hopefully you're not letting a 10 year old read "Angela: Queen Of Hell" anyway. not gonna try and tell you how to parent by any means, but stick to age appropriate stuff or screen it prior if you aren't sure and you'll be fine. fringe books are the extreme examples anyway, there's still tons of fun superhero comics out there with no hidden message other than here's some extreme hero shit.

Thank you for the response.
Yea, my son doesn't read Angela. He was wanting to read Thor though, and when he saw Thor as a woman, he wanted to read it, so we bought the first issue, he lost interest after that.
I tend to let him chose what he reads, within reason, he really wants to read "Redhood and the Outlaws", but yea, he needs to be a shade older than 12 before he dives into that area.....
Right now we stick to the Flash, Mega Man, Teen Titans, and Justice League. A few Spider Verse titles if he likes the cover, but he really only gets those for the covers. Honestly, we scaled back after Secret Wars, it just wasn't good, and as you mentioned, WAY to many titles to buy at a time when we are pretty much broke.
He would like to read X-Men and a few others, but with shenangians like this, I can't really justify them right now. Nor do I want to reward bad writing with my money.

Well, a lot of comics are getting SJWed, people don't like it. It talks down to the audience in some kind of snobbish patronizing tone. And of course Thorina didn't help, they took a character and turned it into a SJW, a badly written one at that.
Basically it isn't Disney-fication, it is SJWs warping all media, and Marvel has simply fallen to their influence more powerfully than some other outlets.

I founded a sub to track it at /r/WerthamInAction. I also created its counterpart here at /v/WerthamInAction, but haven't gotten it running yet.

No, at best you can hope for only a mild influence of these crazed ultra-leftists. Or just skip Marvel entirely, as I have done. Clearly some comics are more under thumb than others, Thor in particular went into the deep end of stupid.

MundaneMatt has a nice thing on this whole, "Marvel sucks a lot now," thing.
Basically, it is terrible.
