They wouldn't have all that crazy ex military gear if they weren't afraid of something...
[–] sonic_bison 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago (edited ago)
They'll come out of them when they get back to the HQ....After their shift of mowing down anyone they encounter that poses any type of threat.
Then, they'll eat a solid meal and get a good nights rest at the eoc while their relif takes over.
Some of them will die, but that's the job. The military will be out "helping people in need"and boot jacking anyone they feel like.
Edit* also..yes, the population vastly outnumbers the police. if you think that the vast majority of the population will rise up and start shooting police, you are sorely mistaken. Depending on the part of the country you live in, most families don't even own guns. If they do, it's usually 1 pistol or rifle.
You are in some fantasy where every house has some military cache beneath the floorboards ready to strike at a moments notice.

TIL my ancestry failed me by not bequeathing a weapons cache.
[–] JimboBillyBobJustice 1 point 2 points 3 points (+3|-1) ago (edited ago)
I have 4 sets of weapons spread around the east coast of the US. Each cache has 1-Bushmaster AR-15,1-Remmington30-06,and 1 Browning 9mm. About 1box of ammo for each sealed in a vacuum sealed bag.The caches also include about a weeks worth of food and water. When the US turns to shit and everyone is fighting either for their lives or against the government...I'm good to go

... for a month.
1 month is more than enough time to figure out the safest place and head there
[–] sonic_bison 1 point 0 points 1 point (+1|-1) ago
You'll get shot by some cop the first night :/
[–] JimboBillyBobJustice 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Well at least I'll have a weapon to shoot back
[–] password-123 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
one box of ammo for each.
50rds each? I'd put more than that in your caches.

Who's gonna assemble the entire population into an 'army' capable of standing up to the actual army currently in place??
You're greatly overestimating what the average Joe will do once the shit goes down.
[–] pepepepepe ago
I think you're underestimating the morality of individuals in the military. Given the right initial conditions, I think a significant portion of them would desert or turn their guns around. Even the most discliplined soldiers will question why they're going door to door in American neighborhoods to hunt down American citizens.
[–] chryseos-geckota ago
well considering the state and local law enforcement is at about 250 officers per 100,000 citizens and there are total federal LEO 120,000 , an all out shooting war would be an uphill battle for just police.
[–] sonic_bison 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Of those 100,000, how many have weapons and are willing and capable of standing up to an organized military? Probably not as many as you think.
The main difference between the civilians and military/law enforcement (besides training and equipment) is leadership and direction.
Let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say that 60% of that 100,000 have guns and are willing to stand up against the police. Who's gonna organize them? You can't say that they could effectively stand up to police without solid organization and planning.
Which concludes that they would be random disorganized attacks against police? Don't forget they have survalence equipment, infrared, night vision and so on...
[–] chryseos-geckota ago
Don't forget that of the 100,000 there are children elderly, infirm, etc. who are unable to fight as well. So those numbers would be substantially lower.
However I'd assume there be a decent number on the law enforcement side unwilling to face civilians as well.
The numbers would still be significant stacked against the coppers.
Even in "peaceful" circumstances police can't control locations in the US; Baltimore, Atlanta Oakland etc. Now imagine if people's ire was truly inspired?
[–] sonic_bison ago
I'm not sure what you're referring to, but in the U.S. We won't see a unified rebellion against the government. Period. Maybe at one point the citizens in the U.S. were like-minded enough to join together, but we can't even agree on voting to overthrow a corrupt government.
[–] darthskids 2 points -1 points 1 point (+1|-2) ago
I wonder that too. Seems like a single bullet through a dictator would be a lot more effective than trying to fight your way through the entire army.
[–] Monsantos_Schlong 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
That's when having cop friends and neighbors come in handy. Are they really going to shoot their neighbors they've known for a long time?
[–] MedicalMountainGoat 1 point 2 points 3 points (+3|-1) ago
Did the nazis shoot civilians?

ppl bet on that too much. All the enforcement that stands against protesters (not causing shenanigan protesters) be doing crazy stuff. its their job, they are gonna follow orders, they are in a pack. they are the majority imo
[–] Gracchi ago
Nope, because that just helps jusyify greater dictatorial actions by the next person.

In a democracy. Not in a dictatorship.
