I didn't say it changed meaning, I said the meaning was disputed. The etymology is vague and can mean different things depending on what you think "rule" is.
Anyhow, I don't have much sympathy for strikers who try to use violence or prevent other people from taking their place, so the pinkerton reference isn't very meaningful.

Like I said, people don't agree on what "rule" means. A voluntaryist would say it's when a group orders an individual around, a collectivist would say it's hierarchies, and groups ordering individuals around is fine so long as they're the majority.
