Has Britain ever truly been in love with free speech?

You occasionally hear someone mention "free speech" or "this is a free country" here in the UK, which is odd - because we don't have any protection in law of free speech that I am aware of.

We don't even have the right to remain silent!

I think people here watch too much American television.

I just don't get it. Above everything else, free speech is unequivocally the most important facet of a healthy and free society, yet somehow people think its okay to ban offensive speech.

Once speech is deemed illegal, its the last step of thought control. Hell, just take a look at Reddit for an easy example. Its an echo chamber that is slowly getting taken over by shitredditsays SJWs.

Don't blame the Redditors, they're just a product of a Reddit that's losing its love of free speech...

Personal accountability is a thing.
