Isn't this misconstrued because the popupation has exponentially increased since the revolution? Of course there are more gun deaths, there are more people! How is that variable accounted for?

Just since 1970, more Americans have died from guns than all the Americans who died in wars going back to the American Revolution (about 1.45 million vs. 1.4 million). That gun toll includes suicides, murders and accidents, and these days it amounts to 92 bodies a day.

Why are suicides counted in gun deaths? That's just stupid and a blatant move to inflate "Gun fatalities". If someone is going to kill themselves they will regardless if they have a gun.

They also add when a cop kills someone. Hell at one of Moms Demand rallies they showed the Boston bomber as a shooting death.

Gun Safety refers to the safe and responsible handling(or deliberate avoidance of handling) of firearms, using it as some kind of code for gun control only makes these people seem disingenuous.

Guns are deliberately misused, this is the single most inconvenient fact for people like this author, who believe that guns themselves (not people) are causing deaths.

So of course we should try to reduce this carnage. But we need a new strategy, a public health approach that treats guns as we do cars — taking evidence-based steps to make them safer. That seems to be what President Obama is trying to do.

Because we had a blackmarket in car sales, and restricting the types of cars, the size of their gas tank, and who could buy them, eliminated their use in crime? Regulating guns is as effective in preventing crime as regulating drugs has been in preventing addiction.

One of my biggest complaints about the liberal-progressive anti-gun people is that they seem to get almost all their information, 'facts' and understanding of guns from movies and TV shows.

They are also duped by simple 'marketing names' like if someone calls a military style weapon an 'Assault' weapon they get confused and they know that 'assault' is a word meaning 'hurt or attack innocent people' right? Assault is illegal by definition so therefore nobody should own an assault gun.

Of course its just a marketing name for a style of rifle military people would use when carrying out some military 'assault on the enemy'. A kind of 'army style look'.

Or they cannot comprehend that 'automatic' doesn't actually mean 'automatically kills people' and they then suppsoe 'semi-automatic' means it 'semi-automatically kills people'.. They sincerely seem to believe a 'automatic aka machine gun' therefore is more deadly and murders way more people etc.

They even go the other way sometimes where they don't even start to care about shotguns for example. I think its because of movies and TV again where a shotgun is often the gun of the Ole Farmer and cartoon violence where someone gets a butt full of little holes and runs away YOUCH! In fact, IF someone wanted to go on a killing spree in a closed area a shotgun would be fucking horrific and quite possibly one of THE deadliest of all choices even over a 'Machine Gun'.

Point being, this is my complaint. They seem to understand guns from movie and TV violence. OR they know better but count on the fact a lot of the general public knows guns from TV and Movies and they play on that.

What a piece of junk. Can the left ever make a rational argument using only facts. Gun related deaths are the middle of a 25 year decline, and not because of legislation. Guns per person has been increasing since the 90's.

Yet we still get shit like this

since 1970, more Americans have died from guns than all the Americans who died in wars going back to the American Revolution

Next I got Al Gore telling me that maps of the world will need to be redrawn, and that global warming is the same as 400,000 Hiroshima's a day.
