Man, I played the HELL out of L.O.R.D., always had 4 or 5 games going on different boards. I had the largest L.O.R.D. game in the calling area on my board for a while, my teenage self felt awesome.

LORD, Usurper, Barren Realms Elite, lots of good times.

In a lot of ways, they were the original Skinner boxes: 24 or so moves in the forest until the next day. I remember staying up late a few nights to wait for midnight to come by and reset the counters so I could get two player attacks in a row heh heh heh

There was one I remember playing that I think was called cripple fight or something like that. I remember making a character was really difficult, where you had to do things like "hit the space bar exactly 237 times" and other things like that. Was pretty fun, but I can never find any reference to it these days. There was also one where you were a god and you controlled a town of people and actively tried to get other player's townfolk to leave them and come to you.

I use to dial in to my local BBS every day after school to burn through my Forest Fights in LORD and then try to progress in Usurper. I loved how you could craft your own cocktails and assassinate people in the Inn. I even managed to become king for a week or two, raising taxes as high as they'd go to get more money. I still remember crossing the moat and killing the moat monster with my diamond daggers before sneaking into the kings throne room and having an epic battle.

'Modern' gaming could learn a lot (but won't due to retardation)
