I'm a recent reddit refugee, and an active geopol lurker on the site that shall not be named. I'd love to see this verse stick to macro gepol strategies, analysis, and realpolitik speculation.

I agree. While there will always be other places which my be "better" to talk about a specific subject, those specialized areas tend to lose a lot of perspective. They get trapped in one of the social media echo chambers that naturally form in such communities, the dialog is highly reactionary and colored by emotion, they are easily swayed by politician's daily talking points, and they focus on individuals.

To me, /v/geopolitics is a place where you can take a step back, look at things from a higher and more rational level, and also extend our timeline out to consider the long term maco affects of whatever is going on and how that shapes our world order.

Welcome! Thanks for the input, as I surely could use it. I created this verse just to make sure it wasn't squatted. I find this to be a fascinated subject, and what you have shared, seems like a good idea. Going to add it to the sidebar just so people can begin to get a feel.

I try to keep content flowing, but with work and a business to run, finding time to read and post is difficult. When this place becomes big enough, we will be needing more mods. =D

Yeah, I'm going to try and see about starting to populate with content in my preciously rare spare time.

Recent convert here. In full agreement, provided those gepol strategies, analysis, and realpolitik speculation are not limited to only the big 6 media established narratives, and confined within that limited discussion sphere through thread and commentary deletion by anyone acting in a moderator capacity.

It doesn't seem much of the voat userbase is either interested in or comfortable talking about politics in general, unless it's the politics of reddit. Admittedly, in order to not be vapid, the discussions tend to involve investing a lot of energy. As the site grows more and more people who are interested will come around. I don't personally think there is a need to change direction or anything of the sort.

Thanks for the input. I was drunk when I created this post so wasn't sure if I made my point clear. It would be neat to see more posts, but seeing as larger verses are leading the discussion, I think this place will work as an archive in the meantime.

Please bar the submission of editorialized headlines. I can't stand any of the other news or politics boards because the submissions all lack nuance and smack of arrogance.

I would second this. If you have something to say about an article you can comment on your submission. The actual titles are editorialized enough already.

We should discourage any of the following statements or their derivatives in the comment section, as they are well known and irrelevant to the discussion due to all sides of any conflict continually making the same claims. None of which are generally able to be verified until after the war is over.

  1. We do not want war.
  2. The opposite party alone is guilty of war.
  3. The enemy is the face of the devil.
  4. We defend a noble cause, not our own interest.
  5. The enemy systematically commits cruelties; our mishaps are involuntary.
  6. The enemy uses forbidden weapons.
  7. We suffer small losses, those of the enemy are enormous.
  8. Artists and intellectuals back our cause.
  9. Our cause is sacred. "The ages-old 'God bless America' is playing once more."
  10. All who doubt our propaganda, are traitors.

This is good since comments like the ones you are describing would not add to discussion in our sub. I hope to use the comments in this post in the future to set the rules. This would enable the entire user base to contribute in the manner which this subverse generates discussion. Thanks for your input.

I'll be damned! The sub about my favorite topic is ran by a man from the greatest place on earth; I must be at home. PM a fellow Texan some time.

Back to the issue at hand... I think a geopol sub would be two tierd; 1) links and articles about relevant stories/events and 2) an open forum for discussion about broader topics

I think you're going to want to avoid too many rules or directions for a time until this sub has been given some time to grow

That's exactly what I would expect too. I think we can keep those reddit refugees here by investing time and energy to make/keep this subverse active.
