But this isn't even wrong(aside from the typos)... It's called front end estimation. Just because you don't understand it does not mean it should not be taught.

I understand exactly what front-end estimation is, and that's not even correct front-end estimation. That's truncation, and they are very different concepts. I don't see the benefit of teaching kids how to truncate numbers while incorrectly calling it estimation.
EDIT: Quit being such a smug asshole too. Just because you think you understand it doesn't mean it should be taught.

It's not truncating. Truncating is approximating a decimal number by dropping all decimal places past a certain point. This is http://www.basic-mathematics.com/front-end-estimation.html.
I could'nt really care less if you personally don't see the benefit of this.
I don't care if I come off as smug. Your entire argument is worthless. You're basically arguing that because of a typo on an image that may or may not be real, that the math portion of common core is bad. Did you ever even read the contents of your text books when you were in school? They often had typos. This is nothing new if it's real and will probably get fixed in a revision. You're also helping people who are comparing it to astronomy, and Satan, or a conspiracy to brainwash kids with math somehow.
