But it doesn't get anybody to think in numerical, mathematical or algebraic terms, and how numbers reflect the real world and vice versa. It teaches kids how to solve puzzles that have nothing to do with math!
The proper fucking way to teach math is "here's two things. One thing and another thing makes two things. Now there's one and one and one things. That's three times one. Let's kick this up a notch: here's two and two and two things. I even arranged them for you in a grid of two times three. Got that idea? Cool, here's a booklet with the multiplication tables from 1 times 1 through 12 times 12. I want you little shits to memorize them forwards and backwards."
And then you'll build up from there. Instead, common core abandons, nay punishes independent thought, teaches how to solve coded riddles and how to test on those.
