Of course. Just as Robert Palmer and Warren Zevon did. David's death wasn't a surprise to him.

Do/did you value him as a musician and performing artist?

I do. He had passion. His music was beautiful, and I don't use that word lightly, at all. He was a kaleidoscopic chameleon of an artist, and he will surely be missed.

I feel the same. I won't pretend that I am a fan, but you'd have to be willfully ignorant not to see the contributions he made to performing arts.

Yes, I think he did. I don't think he had as much control over the release of the album, you can't just put that off for the perfect moment. But he probably realized this would be his last birthday so he thought it would be the best time to release the video for Lazarus. His dying 3 days later was probably not planned to a t but he figured it was close.

I value him as both. Watch the documentary "Five Years." I think he considers himself an artist before he considers himself a musician though he was a pretty damn good songwriter, really inventive.

The lyrics were intentional. He was hoping to live long enough to release the album and die some time afterwards. If he didn't make it, we wouldn't find out about it. But he didn't intentionally die a couple of days after release, that's preposterous.

But he may have postponed its release until the docs told him he didn't have very long left?

You do get told, even if not directly, that you are entering your 'end of times'

I think it's unlikely that he wanted to turn it into that much of a show. We'll probably never find out, one way or the other.

I saw a story on FB earlier that his manager confirmed it was planned. It was Ziggys goodbye to all of us. Let me see if I can find a link.

Producer actually, but yeah.

He might've been hanging on until the release was complete. With his final task behind him, perhaps there was less drive to hold on.
