I found out about the policy change shortly after I came to voat. The desire to leave came after three failed submissions to ELI5 on a harmless and miniscule question. Twice the auto moderator removed my posts for improper formatting and when the third one finally went through I was berated for asking a question that had already been asked before. Scant minutes later I learned that my submission was removed on the grounds of the question having been previously asked. If I just wanted an answer, I could have gone to Google for that, I asked on ELI5 to foster a dialog, fuck me right?
It was just shitty, and unnecessarily authoritarian. After that I took a look at my user account and realized that so much of it was regurgitated quotes and memes, with no real content or anything worthwhile to say. That was when I realized how much wasted effort reddit had become for me.

Well i switched my homepage to voat instead of reddit because that was just the last straw.
The others are i just rarely see anything new there anymore. I would rather see 400 outrageous posts i dont agree with and one new one i do learn something from than just stuff i have seen over and over that are the only things that make it through the multiple censorship layers there now.
Honestly the hoops you have to jump through just to post anything over there now are ridiculous. Every single sub has somercane rule list to follow.
And when you do post there seem to be 500 fake accounts ready to pounce on you with prescripted responses unless you say bill gates is great and nuclear power will save the world. Literally always the same arguments.
Also it got so all the best posts were in the subs that contained the deleted posts for other subs. Like /undelete and /removalbot

I deleted my account right before it took effect.
Arotaes, I never bothered deleting my account before (I just stopped using it); how ought one to go about removing one's account completely from the reddit database? I remember reading posts before about truly eliminating accounts, everything that such accounts had posted, etc., but I don't recall the steps

I hope you used one of these scripts:

Those of you who haven't deleted their reddit accounts yet, but are considering doing so, should definitely use one of these scripts.
Edit: Notifying @PeaceSeeker, @2stix.

I did. Deleted my account and created my Voat account on 1/1/16. I tried to convince the members of r/privacy to leave Reddit because of the new privacy policy but basically got laughed off and called a shill. Of all the people on Reddit who ought to have been concerned, r/privacy should have been at the forefront of the protesters...
