I used to assume that clothing sizes were based on how ''big'' you were, not necessarily fat. As an example, a normal built 155 cm lady would wear an XS and a 180 cm lady would go for an L. I thought the sizes went up in proportion to height as well as weight.
I'm 170 cm, at 18 BMI. I always assumed that my size should be an M or maybe an S. But nope. Even XS is too baggy sometimes.
What on earth do smaller framed women wear if not XS?! What has vanity sizing come to? Blimey.

Canadian shitlady here, too. My mom bought me a medium sweater from Le Chateau for Xmas. Even being 5 months pregnant, it was too big for me. I was swimming in the damn thing. Had to exchange it for a small. And I'm not petite, either; I'm 170cm (5'7").

Because of these fucking disgusting butter golems who complained about wearing L and XL, they had to make S and M bigger. Now I have to buy XS clothes and some of the time stores don't even have XS. I also need to get slim XS for dress shirts but most stores stopped carrying them because of these beef trusts. Where the fuck is this "thin privilege"???

I'm 5'0 and I have to go to juniors stores or my newest thing... because my closest mall is an hour away and I don't like leaving the house on the weekends...I wear kids clothes. I've gotten more compliments on my clothes since I've been shopping in the "kids" section... and I get to shitlady by saying.. "Oh thanks, I got it from the kids section at walmart" They hate it. It's wonderful.

The worst is when I shop at outlet stores and I can never find clothing in my size because everything is size 12+. At least there's plenty of athletic wear that is in my size. Recently I went to the Bay (fellow Canadian here) and tried on some Free People tops in XS and they fit like a tent and I didn't bother looking for XXS since I don't often see brands carry XXS clothing. It turns out that Free People does make XXS but for 24" waist and their XS are for 25" & 26" waistlines which are a whole size bigger than it should be (compared to other brands). Vanity sizing has gotten so bad that now I just order online from Taobao when I'm in China and I just placed an order from a Chinese site called Choies. Hopefully they stick to Chinese sizing instead of catering to fats.

Oh man, I love Free People. Most of my clothes are from them. But yeah, they tend to run huge, which is still manageable if you're going for the breezy, Boho look. Fats can never pull of Boho.

I love the style too! It's just that the loose breezy look ends up swallowing me alive haha (I'm 5 feet tall so that's part of the reason). And fats just can't pull anything off no matter how cute the clothes are!
