The repeal was part of the omnibus spending bill signed by President Obama on Friday.

Another reason why Congress shouldn't be able to lump multiple bills into one.

Then again that 1 billion dollar tariff is pretty ridiculous.

Another reason why congressmen shouldn't be allowed to legislate. And sadly, most of them will be reelected because Idiocracy.

I won't argue that there's weird shit going on, but this spending bill became kind-of a "lump some random shit you want to establish as law without being too reckless" bill, because Obama basically has to sign it. They just threw whatever they wanted on it.

Because they don't care. They see their paycheck coming down the aisle and get their big grins on and know its coming. So they just sign and pass anything that gets that extra bit of money coming in.
Then again if you go against companies, tyson for example they go out of their way to shit all over you. Get your pay cut and do everything they can to get you fired. So maybe they are just spineless worms instead of purposefully damaging assholes.

Awesome. "E-coli outbreak in meat from nation X. You have no way of knowing whether or not you are affected. Good luck."

This actually makes buying any fresh meat and fresh produce potentially dangerous. It might make sense to freeze everything you buy and not use it until you're fairly sure there was no outbreak or contamination during the "fresh" time period.

Expect much more along these lines once the TPP passes.

The TPP makes governments completely impotent compared to corporations. So for instance imagine Malaysia isn't happy because people are boycotting their dirt cheap seafood that was harvested using what is literally slave labor. They could sue the government if they were required to label their products as being from Malaysia.

Phillip Morris is currently involved in a similar 'free trade' lawsuits against a variety of countries. The initial was against Honduras who signed a pact similar to the TPP with Switzerland, Phillip Morris' base country. Honduras decided to ban smoking in enclosed indoor areas and require large health warnings on the package. The TPP will make things like this almost impossible to do as now corporations can sue the government for hampering their entitlement to profit. And the governments in question get to spend millions of taxpayer dollars defending these lawsuits even if they do win. Oh the fun times, they be a coming.

My first thought was also about the TPP. This is exactly the kind of thing that is going to happen repeatedly if the TPP passes. This time we have blindfolds put on when it comes to the meat that we put in our bodies. Who knows what kind of feed/conditions are going into these animals that we are going to ingest. As with any business, they'll do the bare minimum to get the most profit and I'd rather not have that happen with my sustenance.

This time it's meat products. Next it will be our water, automobiles, medicines. All in the name of corporations making an extra buck.
