Shoes off at the door. Socks stay on. Fuzzy slippers used if it's chilly. Except on the basement stairs. Steep basement stairs + fuzzy slippers = fractured coccyx.

Yes, but I don't make guests do it. I find it annoying when people make you take your shoes off to be in their house. Unless it's muddy out or your shoes are obviously muddy, it just seems conceited.
