Honestly I'd rather there were some ads there than chat at this point. Voat is great, but I just worry about it tanking once the actual costs start rolling in. I'm sure there are some great ideas forthcoming re: monetizing, but I can't help but think that good old banners might be the way to go for now.

That gave me another idea. What about a toggle for each subverse so that the moderator can either choose a community chat room, or merge with the global chat room? Just a thought, I have no idea if this is even possible.

I think this is a great idea, I remember being a member of a forum (I forget which one, I was young) before the days of Web 2.0, the community was fairly small like how we are at Voat. On the front page there was a message box, literally like if you were in a chat room and it really gave personality to the members because you could say what you were thinking and people could build off of it.
I think this is a good idea for the front page and each subverse although when this site grows larger then a front page chat window probably wouldn't work out too well, it would probably still work in the subverses because the community would be smaller and more direct.
