As fucked up as this is, people do some weird shit during a siezure. It's not always the violent tremors you see on TV. It's literally a shorted circuit in the brain causing any number of malfunctions. One I've witnessed first hand was someone splashing scalding water on themselves as if they were hot and thought the nearly boiling water would cool them down. Another example was someone clawing and digging at their face as if to take it off like a mask. The expected unawareness following an episode isn't always there either. I've seen a grand mal event be followed with what seemed to be complete clarity only to be followed the next day with missing time, no recall of the previous 24 hours and no idea it was a new day at all.

She should've been completely honest in the first place and not tried to cover it up with the space heater lie if her epileptic story is true.

The important thing here, just like in all criminal cases, is evidence. We have evidence that she placed her daughter in the microwave. We have no evidence that she had an epileptic seizure. If we are to believe her on her word without any supporting evidence, to be consistent we would have to do so in other criminal trials as well. Any criminal accused of any crime could say they had a seizure to avoid punishment.

To see how well court systems worked that didn't rely on evidence, look back at the history of witch burnings and the inquisition.

I'm just saying she would've had a better chance if she did the right thing and stuck to the truth, whatever that may be. Lieing about a space heater only made things worse for her. And I doubt we were given all the evidence in that little article. The news is only interested in the juicy bits.
