LifeLock might be a shitty service that under delivered, but the bigger scam I see here is the FTC fines. Basically the logic is "You fucked over your customers, now you owe us money!" WTF is that shit, shouldn't they be paying out to the customers that they fucked over?

My guess is that class action lawsuits are on their way. So that's at least several million for the lawyers and $3.67 for the people that used the service.

For people concerned with, or have suffered from identity theft, please consider using a credit freeze to secure yourself. All the credit monitoring in the world won't help if someone gets your information; they are only useful after an incident has occured. a credit freeze will completely disable the abilty for someone to open a new line of credit with your ID.

Check out this link and follow the directions: http://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/06/how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-embrace-the-security-freeze/

For some perspective; it only costs me $6 total to implement a credit freeze at all the major brokers, and will cost the same amount to un-freeze. After dealing with ID theft, that $6 is the best money I've spent in a long time.
