It's still IP indexed.

If someone made an account on the IP that a new person tries to make a new account on, it'll block them.

So 50/50.

I'd like to get a proper answer on this! I am 100% behind the exclusivity of Voat and not letting it being over run by morons, but there are still lots of cool people out there who cannot post.

EDIT: Not to be Angela Merkel and open the gates all the way, but maybe have a good screening process and potentially let in like 500 new people @Atko

Like: Tell us in 300 words why you want to join Voat and what kind of material you'd like to post and discuss etc. With that information on the newcomer I trust an educated guess could be made as to whether or not they would fit in cohesively. Don't give them permanent membership straight away either - if they lie and trick their way into Voat and turn out to be a SJW ballbag, make it easy to delete them

The IP gate still exists which is just stupid. It's the number one reason I haven't recommended voat to any of my friends. All of them are behind some form a NAT (home/company) and wouldn't be able to all join. Hell, even at my workplace I'm the only one who can use it. There are 1000 of us behind a firewall. I'm the only one who can use voat.

If they don't want to drop the IP gate completely they could at least change it to just throttle sign-ups. Say to 1 sign-up per IP per day which would vastly improve things.

if you're connecting from a "virgin" IP that nobody else has ever used to make a voat account it should work.

The only problem is if you share an IP, say with multiple people in the same house or with people at work. Then you may be blocked if one of those other people have already created a voat account from that same IP.
