The guy seemed to stop caring for me and just get jealous. I had to take care of the child...I couldn't just dump him in a corner..but if I didn't ..well I was ignoring him...OK I will look to you and care for you Dad...but not when hes screaming the house down....and you could try a nappy change and play time dad?'
I suppose what I am saying is that the father never even looked at his son and expected me to ignore the child for him(the father)...and he was such a loving and caring person before that (remember this was a child on a ventilator and about to die for the 1st 3 months)
I grew to hate his selfishness during that first 3 months

As a father of 3 I can agree that the relationship does change. It goes from being about 'you both' to being about 'the screaming little blob that squirts brown magma from it's ass every 5 minutes'. The thing is though that we both hit this change together. It was very tough for us both to have all of our time dedicated to the kid and her massive postpartum depression was a nightmare. But we got through it and learned to find ways to get some time for us to reconnect and recharge. The key was we did it together as a team. Stuff changed for sure and it never went back to how it was, how could it? In the end, I feel our relationship matured. As a couple we have been weathered and seasoned by all we have been through and are wayyyyy better off.
I am not here to gloat, i am just saying that what you went through is not the norm. It is a sad result of bumping into selfish guys who are unable to deal with a situation that does not revolve around them. I am sorry you and your kids went through what you did and I honestly hope things change for the better for you all. Raise your kids right, raise them strong and when you find a guy make sure it is someone who can fill the kids need for a role model and icon of strength. Someone who can walk side by side with you through parenthood, rather than a manchild who lags behind because his walking fleshlight doesn't want to play ball any more.
