Depression doesn't cause an appetite loss for everyone and does the opposite to many, but the argument is that increased appetite doesn't justify ham status. Also, managing diet and exercising are some of the best tools in fighting depression. Anyone serious about not being depressed some day should be taking an interest in their physical health.

Its more like, you dont have any buddies, nobody gives a fuck about you and everything seems pointless, so its easy to sit around all the time being a fat shit.

Getting your heart rate up excites you and that helps. It does change your mood, and if youre getting like mood swings or something, you can run from those- put all your anxiety and bullshit energy into just aimlessly running.

I hear you. I've been diagnosed with clinical depression. When it gets bad I can barely eat. I have to force myself to eat enough calories to stay alive, especially since when I'm depressed I'd rather go for a really long run. 10+ miles burns 1,000 calories.

Same. I lost 12 pounds when my depression was unchecked because I just didn't want to eat. I looked like crap because I really was too thin by about 8ish pounds (I'm smaller so that's a decent percentage of my weight).

Yea, I was depressed through my teens and early 20's. I could hardly eat and was slightly underweight.

Hams like to use depression as an excuse not to feel guilty about eating too much. Deep down they know they can do something about it, but it's easier to not do anything.

Based on my own experience with clinical depression, I can tell you that on the days where I've been really low, I don't get out of bed and therefore don't eat. I've gone multiple days at a time without eating because I was so horribly depressed.

I get that some antidepressants have weight gain listed as a side effect, but they aren't the cause of it. The pills aren't 2000 calories a pop, you still have to overeat to gain weight. The science isn't certain yet, but they think some antidepressants affect your satiety (your brain's ability to register that you are full). So you will eat more because the signal in your brain telling you that you've had enough is altered. The other theory is that people gain weight on antidepressants because they were previously too depressed to eat (see above) and once they start taking the medication, they start eating again.

All this isn't an excuse to turn into a fat fuck because of depression. It's just another convenient excuse hams use to get out of any personal responsibility. Counting calories and not going over your TDEE will prevent weight gain, whether you are taking antidepressants or not. Furthermore, regular exercise will help prevent weight gain, and has the added benefit of being as good as antidepressants for mild to moderate depression. Even something as simple as walking 30 minutes a day has shown to have benefits.

While I'm sure some actually have depression, the more likely thing is that they're sad because their choices make their own life suck.

It's the food equivalent of the alcoholic who drinks his problems away instead of trying to fix them.
