I def think there's something too what you're saying, as Peyton had a similar issue trying to run Kubiak's offense... but I think Brees is well rounded enough that he could play with a feature back whereas Peyton at this point cannot. I do think that Brees has Atlas syndrome where he thinks he has to score 50 so he throws 3 picks and then he has to score 50 to make up for the picks. I think he'd much more effective at 30 pass attempts than 40 every week.

Brees would be fine in another offense, unless he gets old overnight he's a very well rounded athlete. You're right about his picks though. On paper it makes no sense for him to throw as many as he does (he's thrown them his whole career) since he is the most accurate passer that ever played. But he likes his home run balls too much. A lot of the time they're effectively arm punts and not too costly, but they definitely come from him trying to win games by himself. Peyton could't adapt to a new offense since it took a super human rehab effort to get back to running what he knew, let alone him being eve older and trying to do another evolution. But Brees could. I just don't see Sean Payton letting go of the GCO since it is basically his brainchild an he got called a genius for it.
