I wonder if theres any research on this when it comes to the UK and their food labeling laws.
I am more concerned with things like sodium content and whether the product contains hydrogenated fats (which are somehow still legal in the UK) than I am with calories. However the caloric information is useful too. I'd have never guessed that one of my stir fry sauces has 5 times more calories than the rest...
I don't avoid the sauce because of this I simply eat a lighter supper to compensate.

Personally when i see cal counts, I try to find the lowest count versus the tastiest item that I want to eat.
Although I am sure there are many out there that subscribe to the train of thought that more calories equals more food.
