Host Chuck Todd grew visibly frustrated with Trump as Todd insisted that simply repeating what others have heard and seen doesn't make something true.

So, his counter to Trump's statement... is that people saw and heard the opposite?

I think his point was that unless you can produce evidence of it happening, how do we know it happened? Anecdotal evidence proves nothing. I too remember reading/hearing stories of people celebrating, but there were also Israels dancing across the river. But I have no video to back it up.

Presidential campaigns are full of anecdotes. We don't ask for hard evidence for every last one, nor does the media continually interrogate every candidate over every last one.

This is a non-story. Do they have nothing on his policies to talk about? Apparently not, if they want to keep this story in the news. Terrible media attacks are what has been fueling his campaign, because his support comes from anger at the media/government establishment.

I don't know why people claim there's a bias against Trump.

Seems pretty clear what happened. At the time there was an overwhelming pro-Iraq-war media consensus, and media sources such as the NYT weren't concerned about deceiving people into supporting the war. Trump apparently believed them.

I just don't care whether he's right or not I just think it's amazing that he won't back down.

I assume he did see something. Maybe a station reported on the NYTimes and Washington Post stories claiming some people were celebrating, then went on to show celebrations in the middle east, and that made the Trump think the two were connected. Maybe one station DID catch it, and since every damn media station called him out on it they aren't all that motivated to dig through their archives and find it. Maybe he just said something wrong off the cuff and won't back down now because he's convinced he did see it.

It doesn't goddam matter. I FIRMLY believe that Trump believes he saw this 14 goddam years ago and didn't take the time to document when it aired and on which station. We've had lawyer scumbag politicians lying to us for decades and trying to make it seem like they're completely honest. Trump is entirely laid out for us. He doesn't have time to play the political games. Doubling down on whether or not he saw something 14 years ago just makes sense to him.

The media has spent years and years telling us what we should care about during these presidential races. Surprisingly, they want us to care about things they can sensationalize with regularity, like whether someone's recollection from 14 years ago is entirely accurate. The media have spun the presidential race to be about "gaffes" and incorrect statements, because that gives them shit to report on. That's why politicians are incompetent fools whose greatest skill is winning over the media, or at least not being crucified by them.

Trump is fighting this system. Trump is becoming his own media on Twitter and whatnot, so it doesn't matter if news outlets on both sides of the aisle try to beat him. I don't even agree with him on around 30-50% of issues, but I'd rather him than the majority of the pack, because I think that people are starting to figure out that maybe - just maybe - what we've been valuing in our politicians and candidates doesn't matter for being a successful executive.
